How The Healing Center Works

Karma Wellness is a science-backed healing center in Mission Hills, San Diego, built around how the body actually recovers. The space includes 12 healing rooms designed to work together as a system.

When you book a session, you’re not choosing a single treatment. You can move between rooms based on what your body needs that day. We have suggested flow list to get you started whether you’re looking for muscle recovery, skin support, calming you nervous system, improving circulation, etc.

Each room affects the body in a different way—calming the nervous system, improving circulation, reducing inflammation, or supporting muscle and joint recovery. When used together, the effects are stronger and more effective than using any one treatment on its own.

This approach combines heat, cold, hydrotherapy, minerals, mechanical therapies, steam, salt, and low-stimulus environments to support whole-body recovery in a way that’s flexible and personalized each visit.

You can think of it as a system:

  • Calming rooms help your nervous system shift out of stress

  • Circulation based rooms prepare tissue to respond better

  • Recovery focused rooms support repair and reduced pain

No prior experience is needed — staff are available to help you get started with suggested flow list.

Science-Backed Healing Center Rooms

InBody 580 Composition Scan

InBody 580 scan, body composition scan, body fat test, muscle mass test, body water analysis, fitness progress tracking, health assessment scan

The InBody 580 uses multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance to measure body composition, including skeletal muscle mass, body fat percentage, and total body water, without predictive estimates.

This scan provides objective data that helps identify imbalances, track physical changes over time, and inform recovery, training, and health decisions as part of the Healing Center system.

  • Measures muscle mass, fat mass, and body fat percentage

  • Analyzes total body water and fluid balance

  • Provides segmental analysis of arms, legs, and trunk

  • Useful for tracking progress and physical changes over time

Your scan helps inform how you move through the Healing Rooms. It offers guidance on whether your body may benefit more from recovery, circulation, calming, or restorative support, allowing you to choose rooms that align with what your body needs in that moment.

Red Light Therapy Sauna Room

red light therapy, infrared light therapy, red light sauna, muscle recovery therapy, inflammation support, collagen support, cellular repair therapy

Red Light Therapy Sauna uses specific red and near-infrared light wavelengths that support the body’s natural repair process. Originally developed through NASA research and now widely used in sports medicine, this therapy helps cells produce more energy so healing can happen more efficiently.

  • 660 nm supports collagen production and surface-level cellular repair (skin and connective tissue)

  • 880 nm penetrates deeper into muscles and joints to reduce inflammatory signaling (messages that tell tissue to stay irritated)

  • Both wavelengths stimulate mitochondrial ATP production (the energy source inside each cell that powers repair)

When circulation and tissue temperature have already been increased in other heat-based saunas like the Mineral Mud Sauna or Mugwort Sauna, red light can reach deeper tissue instead of being absorbed at the surface. When used after cold exposure, reduced swelling allows the light to work on tissue that is no longer compressed by inflammation, making repair more effective and longer-lasting.

Himalayan salt sauna, salt therapy room, halotherapy, respiratory support therapy, breathing support sauna, dry salt therapy

Himalayan Dry Salt Sauna

The Himalayan Dry Salt Sauna disperses microscopic dry salt particles into warm, dry air to support easier breathing and airway comfort.

  • Salt draws moisture into thick mucus, helping thin it and clear the airways

  • Drier airway surfaces reduce irritation from allergens and pollutants

  • Improved airflow supports more efficient oxygen exchange

When breathing becomes easier, heat- and circulation-based rooms like the Red Light Sauna or Jacuzzi feel more comfortable because the body’s oxygen demand is met more efficiently. Clearer airways also support calmer breathing patterns in the Forest Sauna, helping stabilize heart rate and recovery during the session.

Mugwort Sauna Room (Herbal Heat Therapy)

mugwort sauna, herbal sauna therapy, muscle relaxation heat therapy, circulation support sauna, natural heat therapy

This sauna combines dry-to-moderate heat with mugwort, a traditional herb associated with circulation support and muscle relaxation.

  • Heat increases blood flow and softens tight muscles and fascia (connective tissue)

  • Mugwort supports smooth-muscle relaxation (the muscles that line blood vessels)

  • Sustained warmth reduces stiffness in connective tissue

As muscles and connective tissue warm evenly, deeper-acting rooms like the Mineral Mud Sauna and Jacuzzi can work on tissue that already has improved mobility. Red Light Therapy also becomes more effective when tissue density is reduced through heat-based vasodilation (the widening of blood vessels).

forest sauna room, stress relief sauna, nervous system support, relaxation therapy room, calming heat therapy

Forest Sauna Room (Nervous System Support)

The Forest Sauna uses gentle heat and reduced sensory stimulation to calm the nervous system.

  • Lower sympathetic nervous system activity (the stress response) reduces muscle tension and vascular tightening

  • Increased parasympathetic activation (the rest-and-recover state) supports circulation regulation and healing

  • Reduced stress signaling supports deeper rest and recovery processes

When the nervous system is calmer, physical therapies like Red Light, Mineral Mud, Cold Therapy, and Hydrotherapy work more effectively. The benefits created in other rooms are able to last longer instead of being overridden by stress-driven tension.

mineral clay sauna, mud sauna therapy, deep heat therapy, muscle stiffness relief, circulation support sauna, heat therapy for pain

Mineral Clay Sauna Room

The Mineral Mud Sauna uses heated, mineral-rich mud to deliver sustained warmth and essential minerals directly to muscles and joints.

  • Magnesium helps calm overactive muscles and reduce spasms

  • Calcium and potassium support healthy nerve-to-muscle communication

  • Deep heat increases circulation and softens tight connective tissue

When muscles are warmer, better supplied with blood, and firing more normally, other rooms interact with the body differently. Red Light Therapy penetrates deeper, cold therapy calms inflammation without triggering reflex tension, and time in the Jacuzzi allows joints to move more freely. This is why using multiple rooms together produces stronger and longer-lasting results than using any one room alone.

Cold Therapy Room

cold therapy room, cryotherapy room, cold exposure therapy, inflammation relief, pain relief therapy, muscle recovery cold therapy

Cold Therapy lowers tissue temperature to interrupt pain and inflammatory signaling.

  • Slower nerve conduction reduces pain intensity

  • Vasoconstriction limits swelling and inflammatory byproducts

  • Rewarming restores circulation with reduced tissue reactivity

By stabilizing inflammation and pain first, heat-based rooms like the Mineral Mud Room, Steam Room, or Jacuzzi can increase circulation without re-provoking swelling. Red Light Therapy can then support cellular repair while tissue remains mechanically calmer and less compressed.

Cold Plunge (Coming Soon!)

The Cold Plunge uses full-body cold water immersion to create a rapid nervous system and circulation response.

  • Cold exposure triggers vasoconstriction (temporary narrowing of blood vessels), helping reduce soreness and inflammation

  • As the body re-warms, circulation increases, supporting metabolic waste removal

  • Cold water stimulates alertness and recovery signaling in the nervous system

When followed by controlled heat or circulation-based rooms such as the Steam Room, Mineral Mud Sauna, or Jacuzzi, the rebound increase in blood flow supports recovery without lingering stiffness. Red Light Sauna used afterward benefits from reduced inflammatory pressure at the tissue level.

Steam Room (Coming Soon!!)

The Steam Room uses moist heat to gently raise core body temperature and support circulation and breathing.

  • Moist heat promotes vasodilation (widening of blood vessels), improving overall circulation

  • Humid air hydrates the airway lining, making breathing feel easier

  • Warmth increases tissue elasticity, helping muscles and joints move more comfortably

The Steam Room works especially well before movement- or recovery-focused spaces like the Jacuzzi, Mineral Mud Sauna, or Red Light Sauna. It also prepares the respiratory system for the Himalayan Salt Sauna by loosening mucus before dry salt exposure.

Hydrotherapy Jacuzzi (Coming Soon!!)

The Hydrotherapy Jacuzzi combines warm water, buoyancy, and gentle pressure to support recovery and comfortable movement.

  • Buoyancy reduces load on joints and the spine

  • Warm water increases muscle and connective-tissue flexibility

  • Reduced compression allows smoother, pain-free movement

After tissue has been prepared through sauna heat, steam, or red light therapy, the Jacuzzi allows the body to move through an improved range without re-introducing strain. When used after cold exposure, it provides controlled re-warming so muscles and joints stay mobile rather than tightening again.

Pick your goal for the session for example skin support, muscle recovery, etc. and follow the suggested flow chart.
Feel free to bring a book, phone, magazine or just meditate in the room.
